Skin tags and moles are common skin growths that can appear on the skin's surface. Skin tags, also known as acrochordons, are small, soft, flesh-colored growths that often hang off the skin by a stalk. They typically develop in areas where the skin rubs against itself or clothing, such as the neck, armpits, groin, and under the breasts. Moles, on the other hand, are clusters of pigmented cells that can vary in size, shape, and color. They may be flat or raised and can range from light brown to dark black.

Skin tags and moles are typically found in the epidermis or dermis layers of the skin. Skin tags are usually located in the epidermis, while moles can extend into the dermis.

There are several types of skin tags and moles:

1. Skin Tags (Acrochordons):

   • Fibroepithelial polyps: These are the most common type of skin tags and are made up of fibrous tissue and covered with epidermal skin.

   • Filiform skin tags: These are long, narrow, and thread-like skin tags commonly found on the neck, eyelids, and underarms.

   • Pedunculated skin tags: These skin tags have a stalk or peduncle and are often found in areas where the skin folds or rubs against clothing.

2. Moles (Nevi):

   • Common moles: These are small, round, and symmetrical moles with a uniform color. They are usually harmless but should be monitored for changes in size, shape, or color.

   • Atypical moles (Dysplastic nevi): These moles are larger than common moles and may have irregular borders, asymmetrical shape, and varied colors. They have a slightly increased risk of developing into melanoma.

   • Congenital moles: These moles are present at birth or develop shortly after birth. They can vary in size and color and may require monitoring for changes over time.
